David Wilson graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon in 1975 and served in the Royal Australian Infantry Corps. In 1998 he transferred to the Army Reserve where he now works as a part time project officer. During his military career he has served in several overseas deployments including in Uganda with the Commonwealth Military Training Team in 1983 and in Cambodia with both UNAMIC and UNTAC missions in 1991-92. In 2004-05 he was in Thailand as a liaison officer with US forces to support the tsunami relief operation for which he was awarded the US Marine Corps Commendation Medal. Most recently in 2006-07 he served in lraq and Afghanistan as an operations analyst.
David holds a Bachelor of Arts in Military Studies from UNSW and a Master of Science in Instructional Systems Design from Florida State Universily, USA. He is a graduate of the Royal Australian Navy Staff College and Joint Service Staff College. He is a member of the Family and Friends of the First AIF (FFFAIF), a member of the Gallipoli Club in Sydney and a member of the American Civil War Round Table (NSW Chapter). David is also a regular public speaker on the topic of researching AIF service records and is also a competent French speaker.
His deep interest in all types of military history led him to researching members of his own family who served in World War One. This research led to him co-authoring a unit history never previously written: “FIGHTING NINETEENTH – History of the 19th Battalion, AIF” – released in early 2011.
David has been working as a battlefield historian and tour guide with Boronia Travel Centre sinca 2008, conducting tours to Gallipoli and the Westem Front.
